Squatters of an old disused factory decide to abandon barricades and escape once and for all from the centrifugal forces of the inhospitable city which is ever more forcing them to the margins of civil society, denying them a roof, a job, health, legality. Next destination …the Moon!
This is the plot of the short film ( in between Méliès’ “Voyage dans la Lune” and De Sica’s “Miracolo a Milano”) that a film crew decided to shoot with the help of Metropoliz occupiers (the former Fiorucci sausage and salami factory in Via Prenestina 913 in Rome).
The building of the great rocket-set and the short film are, actually, the Trojan horse to get to know in depth the stories of those migrants and temporary workers who on 27 March 2009 forced the gates of the disused factory and decided to fight together for housing rights and for a different, inclusive, multicultural and self-governed city. Through an open creative device, actively involving the inhabitants of Metropoliz during the various stages of the project, an attempt will be made to give back the voice to the night, the dream and the imagination, too often suffocated by the wants of daily life and by the urgency of need.
Space Metropoliz is: a) short film and a documentary film, b) an experiment of shared regeneration and planning, c) an art installation, d) a cycle of shared creative workshops, e) an anthropological research, f) a web radio, a TV mini-series, a periodical, g) a temporary space for art and an itinerary exhibition, i) and some more.
